MY PERSPECTIVE ON PSYCHOTHERAPY

I find it useful first to sort out what’s working in my clients' lives from what’s not. Then we look at what’s not working - be it depression, anxiety, obsessive thinking, compulsive & addictive behavior, or extreme emotional reactions. All of these things can serve as clues to help us identify and address hidden and unexpressed emotions and experiences. (In addition to treating adults, couples, and adolescents with the more standard therapy issues, I have extensive experience working with the full gamut of sexual topics.)

From there, together we develop strategies to do more of what’s working and less of what’s not.  It has been my experience that clients typically know how to solve their own problems once they’ve been able to remove their emotional defenses and barriers. Ultimately, this leaves a client feeling that he or she has a life filled with purpose and meaning. Clients have expressed feeling as if through our work together they’ve woken up from a kind of “sleepwalking,” and have re-engaged with life, pursuing it with passion.
